Week 49/53 of 2020

Dear Farm Members,

After a few days off to rest and celebrate, the weight of this past season, and of the winter to come, has really begun to sink in. Thank you to every last one of you for the outpouring of support you have offered us throughout all of the challenges 2020 has thrown at us. We can’t do this without you!

As we ease into winter, sights have shifted to an exciting project that’s already partially underway - the massive transition of most of our farm operations from our ‘homesite’ on Blind Shady Rd. to our main farm site on Birchville Rd. I cannot begin to explain what a game-changer this will be for the farm. For years, we’ve managed a constant, complex schlep from one site to the other - transplants, tools, humans, produce, etc. all have to be loaded up and transported on a daily basis. Our new evergreen lease with the Bear Yuba Land Trust has given us the land security we’ve desperately needed in order to move ahead in building permanent infrastructure, and to consolidate our production into a single farm site. This means building a new greenhouse, modifying the on-site barn, moving all of our tools and supplies, and the list goes on! It’s an incredible opportunity to finally be able to dream up a brighter future for what this farm can become, and of what we’ll be able to offer this community as a result. We’re excited to share all these developments as things move along, and will keep you all posted. For now, we wish you the best that this season has to offer - clear days, crisp nights, good food, and plenty of time (or facetime) with the ones you love.
